Lost your photos, documents, or entire drive? Before you panic — bring it to us. We recover data from failed hard drives, SSDs, and corrupted storage.

Hard drive data recovery — illustrative photo

Losing important files is one of the most stressful things that can happen to a computer user. Whether it's years of family photos, critical business documents, or an entire hard drive that's stopped responding — the feeling is awful. But in many cases, the data isn't gone. It's just inaccessible.

PC Madness has been recovering data for Midland locals and businesses since 2003. We use professional data recovery software and hardware tools to retrieve files from failing and failed drives. We'll assess your storage device, tell you honestly what's recoverable, and quote you before we begin any recovery work.

Important: the most critical thing you can do when you suspect data loss is to stop using the drive immediately. Every write operation to a failing drive reduces recovery chances. Turn off the computer and bring the drive or device to us as soon as possible.

What We Can Recover Data From

  • Mechanical hard drives (HDD) — including clicking or not-spinning drives
  • Solid-state drives (SSD)
  • Laptop hard drives
  • External hard drives and USB enclosures
  • USB flash drives and memory cards
  • Accidentally deleted files and emptied recycle bins
  • Formatted drives
  • Corrupted file systems

Signs You Need Data Recovery

  • Hard drive making clicking, grinding, or beeping noises
  • Drive not showing up in Windows or File Explorer
  • Accidentally deleted important files
  • Computer crashed and files are now missing or corrupt
  • You formatted the drive thinking you had a backup (you didn't)
  • Ransomware encrypted your files
  • Water or physical damage to a hard drive

How It Works

1

Bring it in

Drop the drive, computer, or device at our Midland workshop. Don't delay.

2

Assessment

We assess the drive type, fault type, and likelihood of recovery.

3

Quote

We tell you what we can likely recover and the cost before proceeding. No surprises.

4

Recovery

We run recovery software tools and, where needed, specialised hardware techniques.

5

Return

Recovered files are returned on a new drive or USB storage device.

What Affects Recovery Success?

Recovery success depends on the type and extent of damage. Logical failures (accidental deletion, corruption, formatting) generally have high recovery rates. Physical failures (clicking drive, water damage) are more complex — recovery rates vary by the specific fault. We'll give you an honest assessment upfront.

Note: PC Madness handles the majority of data recovery cases in-house with our professional tools. Severe physical failures (e.g. head crashes, clean-room work) may need to be referred to a specialist lab — we'll advise you if this is the case.

Pricing

Data recovery pricing depends on the type of fault and the time required. We provide a free initial assessment and quote before any recovery work begins. You only pay if we successfully recover your data — or we agree a fee for the attempt.

Prevent Future Data Loss

After recovering your data, we'll help you set up a proper backup solution — so this never happens again. A good backup strategy means you'll never be in this situation twice.

Data Recovery FAQ

A clicking drive is a sign of a mechanical failure — often a failing read/write head. Stop using it immediately and bring it to us. Data recovery is still often possible, but every use of a clicking drive reduces your chances.
Usually yes, especially if you haven't used the computer much since the deletion. The sooner you stop using the drive, the better the recovery chances.
Sometimes. Water damage recovery is complex and depends on what components were affected and how quickly you acted. Turn it off immediately if it got wet, and bring it in as soon as possible.
We'll discuss this with you upfront. For straightforward logical recoveries, we can often assess recoverability before committing to a fee. For complex cases, there may be a diagnostic fee — we'll be clear about this before we start.
Yes, though SSD recovery is more complex than traditional hard drive recovery. Logical failures (accidental deletion, corruption) have good recovery rates. Physical SSD failure is more challenging — we'll assess your drive and give you an honest prognosis.
Often yes, depending on the cause of failure. Mechanical failures, firmware faults, and logical errors can all be recoverable. We assess each drive individually and the initial assessment is free.
Standard recovery from a logical fault — deleted files, a formatted or corrupted drive — runs $149 to $349. Recovery from a physically failed or damaged drive starts at $299 and depends on the extent of the damage. We quote before starting any work.
Hard drives (HDD), solid state drives (SSD), USB flash drives, SD cards, and external drives. We handle both Windows and Mac storage formats.
